Gearhart Succumbs Sunday at age of 34 Years Pneumonia Causes Death After Two Weeks Illness; Funeral Held Yesterday George W. Gearhart, well-known and popular operator of a Yuma barber shop, died at 7 o'clock Sunday morning at his home in this city after an illness of two weeks at the age of 34 years, five months and 14 days. He was stricken about two weeks previously with influenza which developed into pneumonia. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Presbyterian church of Yuma, Reverend H. C. Alley, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating, and burial was in the Yuma cemetery. Local business houses were closed during the services. The deceased was born September 14, 1902, at Carleton, Nebraska, and came with his parents to Yuma county when he was eight years of age. On December 21, 1925, he and Ina C. Evans were united in marriage at Fort Morgan. The couple spent four and one-half years at Cope where Mr. Gearhart conducted a barber shop and then moved to Yuma where they have since resided. Together they operated a barber shop and beauty shop in the old First National Bank Building. The deceased was an active member in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, having passed thru the chairs some time ago. He was a good business man and in his passing the town loses a valuable and friendly citizen. His father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. George Gearhart, Sr., who had been spending the winter at Hot Springs, New Mexico, were notified of his passing and they arrived home Tuesday afternoon. His mother preceded him in death several years ago. Besides his father, he is survived by four sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Grace Cross of Joes, Mrs. Harry Cecil and Mrs. John cook of Cope, Mrs. James Beverly and Charles Gearhart of Yuma, and Jim Gearhart of Byers, Kansas; a grandmother, Mrs. Eve Gearhart of Fort Morgan, and many others less near relatives. Out-of-town relatives and friends who attended the funeral yesterday were Mr. and Mrs. Andy Bowen and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Scott and son, Mr. and Mrs. O.T. Evans, all of Brush; Mr. and Mrs. Homer Pead and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Good, all of Akron; Mr. and Mrs. Ora Gearhart of Elbert, Colorado, Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Gearhart of Denver; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gearhart and Mrs. Eve Gearhart of Fort Morgan; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bracelin and family of St. Francis, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Martens and daughter of Denver. Special music at the services was played by Paul Stahley, Elmo Hobson, Millard Huey and Marvin Isaac, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Huey.
