He passed away at his home in Yuma May 12, 1991 at the age of 39 years. He received his formal education in the Yuma schools. He moved to Norfolk, Nebraska and it was there that he met and married Sue PRYER on March 12, 1975. To this union a daughter, Mary Jean and a son, Richard LeRoy, were born. After a few years, Billie returned to Yuma where he spent his days with his brother, Benny, working side by side the last several years. His son, Richard, resides in Holyoke with his aunt Betty LANGLEY, Billie's sister. His daughter, Mary Jean, will be able to remain in Yuma with her family and friends by making her home with her cousin, Linda HIGGINS. Billie was loved by all and so very much missed. He will be remembered for his specail kind of personality by his children, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Clarabelle HIGGINS and a nephew, Bobby HIGGINS, all of Yuma. Billie is survived by his daughter, Mary Jean, 15, of Yuma and his son, Richard LeRoy, 13, of Holyoke; four sisters, Nellie TALADAY of Yuma, Arizona, Betty LANGLEY and Roberta (Bertie) CHARLES, both of Holyoke and Rosalie FLORES of Texas; two brothers, Benny of Yuma and Howard of Texas; 25 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews and other relatives. Funeral service was held at the Yuma Church of the Nazarene Wednesday, may 15, 1991 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Michael Prince officiating. Arrangements were made by the Morris-Spellman-Baucke Mortuary of Yuma. A trust fund has been established at the First National Bank of Yuma for all who wish to contribute. Additional Comments: "Higgins death still not officially declared a suicide by Yuma Police Department" Found hanging in Main St. apaprtment by daughter Yuma Police have not made an official determination yet on labelling the death of a local man as a sucide after he was found hung in his Main Street apaprtment Sunday night. Billie Lee HIGGINS, 39, was found by his teenage daughter at about 10 p.m. Sunday. He was hanging with a clothesline around his neck between a bedroom and the living room in the apartment they shared above Aten Department Store on the 200 block of Main Street. Yuma Police Chief James B. Thompson would not comment much on the incident except to say it was an unwitnessed death and was under further investigation. HIGGINS was self-employed and had lived in the upstairs apartment with his daughter for the last few years. The daughter, 15, is staying with relatives.
