Agnes V. Sigmon was born July 1, 1906, in Diagonel, Iowa to Harry and Anna 

Higgins.  She died on March 26, 1993, at the Yuma Hospital at the age of 86.



Agnes, with her family, came by covered wagon to Yuma County when she was 2-

1/2 years old.  They homesteaded near what is now Abarr.



She spent her elementary school years in District 49 and graduated from Yuma 

High School.  She attended and graduated from the Colorado Teachers College in 

Greeley.  She taught at many of the schools in northeast Colorado during her 

career.



On March 18, 1933, she was united in married to Delbert Sigmon in Julesburg.  

To this union five children were born, three sons and twin daughters.



In 1962, Agnes retired from teaching and moved back to Yuma where she spent 

the remainder of her life.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert; parents; brothers, Doyle 

and Harold; son, Edward; infant son; and grandson, Bradley Sigmon.



Agnes is survived by her son, Richard and wife, Iona of Yuma; twin daughters, 

Janice Robinson and husband, Bill of Woodland Park and Genette Smiley and 

husband, Richard of Ogden, Utah; two sisters, Grace and Roena Higgins of Yuma; 

12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other 

family members; and a host of friends.



Funeral service was held at the Church of the Nazarene in Yuma on March 29, 

1993, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Ralph Hess and Rev. Frederick W. Amborn, III 

officiating.  Burial was in the Yuma Cemetery with arrangements by Spellman-

Schmidt-Baucke Mortuary of Yuma.
