Smith, a resident of the Beecher Island community for more than a half century, died unexpectedly at her home near Beecher Island Thursday of last week at the age of 67 years, 11 months and 15 days. Mrs. Smith, who was the daughter of Walter and Maggie Wilson, was born at Alida, Kansas, on January 26, 1894, and as a young girl moved with her family to a farm near Beecher Island. She was married to Ernest Smith on December 12, 1910, and nine children were born to them. One son preceded his mother in death in infancy. The family made their home on a farm near Beecher Island. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband in 1954. Surviving are her two sons, Emil and William of Beecher Island; six daughters, Margaret Kirschmer of Mesa, Arizona, Mildred Simmons of Wray, Myrle Peters of Vernon, Sus Meis of Yuma, Bertha Block of Amherst, and Betty Kasel of Pueblo; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Charles Lawrence of Chapman, Kansas, and a brother, John Wilson of Dickins, Nebraska. The funeral rites were held Saturday Afternoon at the Wray Christian Church conducted by the Rev. G. Arland Johnson. Interment was at Grandview Cemetery.
