Smith were held Wednesday, June 10 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Chester Barnett officiating. Interment was in Grandview Cemetery. William Wilson Smith, a lifetime resident of this community, died Saturday, June 6, at the Wray Community District Hospital after a prolonged illness. He was 63 years, 2 months and 20 days old at the time of his death. Mr. Smith was born March 17, 1918 to Ernest and Myrle Smith on the family farm near Beecher Island. He attended school at the Antelope School District 78. He enetered the United States Army March 17, 1941 with the Medical Corps. Following the war he returned to the Beecher Island community where he farmed and ranched. November 20, 1966 he was married to Hollis Roberts Oberg. They continued residing on the farm until August of 1974 when they moved to Wray. He was especially interested in baseball and western lore. He was a member of the Johnny HInes American Legion Post No. 30. Preceding him in death were his parents, and one brother, Edward. Survivors include his wife Hollis; one brother, Emil of Wray; six sisters, Margaret Kirschmer and Mildred Simmons, both of Wray, Otilla Peters of Vernon, Susan Meis of Yuma, Bertha Block of LaJunta, and Betty Kasel of Pueblo, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
