She passed on February 8, 2017, at Hillcrest Care Center where she had been a resident for the past several years. She was the middle sister of a family of three girls. She spent much of her childhood years living with her Aunt Annie, where she grew up and attended elementary school with her cousins. While living with her cousin Vera and attending Laird High School, she met her future husband, Harold Weed. Rosie and Harold were married in St. Francis, Kansas on January 15, 1944 and enjoyed 48 years of marriage until Harold’s death in 1992.  After their marriage, they moved to the family farm North of Laird where they spent their whole life together. At this farm, they raised their four children: Leona, Harold Jr., Delores and Dean. During her lifetime, Rosie was always ready to share her home with nieces, nephews and any others who needed a place to stay. She was always happy to set another place at the table for anyone who happened to be around at dinner time. Besides being the typical farmwife and helping with all aspects of the farm, Rosie worked at many jobs in the area including driving the school bus for 19 years. She worked in several local restaurants during her lifetime, and also enjoyed helping elderly people in the community with painting and other household projects. Although Rosie worked hard, she enjoyed participating in the Royal Neighbors of America lodge in Laird and playing cards with friends and neighbors. Rosie always had a large vegetable garden and loved her flower garden; one of her favorite activities was an early morning “talking with the flowers” session. She enjoyed taking trips to visit family and friends around the country and loved camping at the family’s land in the Southern Rockies. Rosie was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Vera Crabtree and Olive Spelts; her husband Harold, her daughter Leona and her granddaughter Lydia. She is survived by her son Harold (Dorothy) Weed, her daughter Delores (Derry) Diehl, son Dean (Eileen) Weed, and their families including 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Funeral services were held February 11, 2017 at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral home in Wray with Pastor Timothy Davis officiating. Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery Northeast of Laird next to her husband Harold. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Hillcrest Care Center.
