The Newtown cemetery records provided here are the first increment of an electronic copy of the Newtown section of the
Charles R. Hale Collection. My goal has been to reproduce the typewritten version of the records as faithfully as possible.
If you note any errors, please report any errors to wahldc@ aol.com (delete the space in my address before sending). I
appreciate any corrections, though please note that I will not make a change if the error is in the Hale Collection itself.



If you are interested in the typewritten version of the Hale Collection Newtown records, they are available at the Cyrenius
H. Booth Library in Newtown (this was my source, with an excellent copy supplied to me by Mr. Harlan Jessup) and in the
Genealogy Section of the Connecticut State Library.



For background on the Hale Collection, see http://www.cslib.org/halecol.htm. The collection includes tombstones erected up
until late 1934 when the Newtown area was surveyed. The Hale collection – at least for Newtown – does not include any
inscription information outside of name, vital dates, and relationships. More extensive transcriptions were collected by
Daniel Hearn in the late 20th century and are in the process of getting into electronic form – see
http://www.ctgravestones.com.




Note that my interest in the collection stems from the Peck family. I’ve been able to draw a connection with most of those
I’ve seen to date in this collection. The main challenge I’m facing is in tracing back the maternal lines who’ve married
into the Peck family.
