MEAD, sergeant, Co. A, 28th Conn., had stood the nine months campaign, and returned to his family hoping soon to recruit his well nigh exhausted strength. Within a few days he was taken down with a malignant fever, and after a week's sickness, died, Sept. 6, 1863. He left a wife and a little daughter who did not long survive her father. His funeral was attended at St. John's by Rev. Mr. Mitchell and this son and excellent soldier of the town now lies beneath a monument placed over him by captain Wm. Skiddy.
