William O. Buckley Thomas Hauas McKenna (Signature of Affiants.) 19 Sisson ave., Hartford, Conn., Sept. 10, 1929 Hon. E. Hart Fenn, 183 ann Street, Dear Sir: In answer to your letter in regards to my mothers age, would say, my mother was born September 21, 1855 which will make her 75 years old September 21, 1930. In the first statement she was 42 lacking about 1 month; the second is her correct age at that time which was September 25 1916. August 28, 1929 Hon. E. Hart Fenn, 183 Ann Street, Hartford, Conn. Dear Mr. Fenn: I have you letter of the 17th instant, in which you make inquiry concerning increase of pension in behalf of Mrs. Emily C. Hamilton, 19 sisson avenue, Hartford, Connecticut, who is pensioned under widow certificate 473,851 as widow of George A. Hamilton, Company A, 12th Connecticut Infantry. Upon examination of the papers on file, I found that Mrs. Hamilton alleged in our declaration, filed August 16, 1898, that she was 42 years of age in her statement, filed September 25, 1916, that she was 81 years old, while the certificate of marriage to Thomas Blake February 18, 1872, shows her age as 19 years. In view of this discrepancy in the date of her birth, there should be furnished the evidence indicated in the accompanying circular letter. There is no existing law under which a widow’s pension can be increased on account of blindness or physical condition. If the claimant will furnish the evidence I have indicated, I can assure you that her claim will be given prompt consideration. Of course you understand in order for Mrs. Hamilton to have title to the 40 rate provided by the Act of May 23, 1928, she must have attained the age of 75 years. carbon copy of this letter is enclosed for your convenience.
