"That at Glastonbury in the county of Hartford and state of Connecticut in the month of April AD 1776, he enlisted into the company commanded by Capt. ___ Hale. That he marched in a few days for Boston. That no other troops marched with said company. That he cannot tell the name of the Colonel who commanded the regiment to which they were attached after their arrival at Boston. That ____ Pomeroy was lieutenant of said company. That said company was quartered with other troops on Jamaica Plains. That he continued to serve during the period of his enlistment which was two months when he was discharged at the last mentioned place. That on the twenty-fifth of July ? of the last mentioned year at Glastonbury aforesaid he again enlisted into the service of the United States in the company commanded by Capt. ____ Wells and to the best of his recollection the regiment was commanded by Colonel ____ Bo____? But is unable to recollect distinctly as they were attached to no regiment until they arrived at New York. That he enlisted for six months and immediately marched for New York by way of New Haven and thence by water to near Brooklin (Brooklyn) on Long Island where they took up their quarters in a fort commanded most of the time by General Putnam. That during that summer in the month of August as near as he can recollect he was engaged in the battle of Flatbush on Long Island and was in the retreat from Long Island at the time of its evacuation that fall, but is now unable to recollect __________ they then took up quarters in New York until its evacuation when they crossed over into the state of New Jersey where they remained quartered at different places until the twenty-fifth day of December when together with said company were discharged in the state of New Jersey, but the name of the town has escaped his recollection. That in the year 1777 as near as he recollects ___ in the month of Sept. he was drafted in the militia of the state of Connecticut and marched to the state of New York and came upon the North River at a place called Fishkill (kill is the Dutch name for creek) as near as he can recollect or Catskill, both of which places they marched through and arrived opposite Esopus a day or two after it was burned. That he continued in said last mentioned service as near as he recollects about six weeks and was dismissed at the time the militia from Connecticut who were ordered out on said alarm were dismissed. That he has now no documentary evidence or living witness within his knowledge of either periods of his said service.
