Special County Court, or Court of Common Pleas, holden by order of the Chief Judge of said Court, on the first Tuesday of August, 1820. On thois 1st day of August, 1820, personally appeared in open Court, the same Court being a Court of record for said County, having the powers of fine and imprisonment, Timothy Stephens, aged 70 years, resident in Berlin in the County of Hartford, who being first duly sworn according to law doth, on his oath, declare that he served in the Revolutionary War, as follows: I enlisted in 1776 under Capt. Eli Leavensworth of New Haven in Colo. Jonathan Meigs regt. for one year went first to Boston & then to New York where I was lawfully discharged having served one year. In 1777 I enlisted under Capt. Chapman in Colo. Webb's regt. during the war & served about 7 (sic) years in various regiments & under various Captains some of them were Capt. Judson, Capt. Wright, Capt. Abram Ivsey (? too light to read), & lastly Augustus Barker all of the continental service. I was in the battle of Monmouth, at Harlem Heights & Yorktown at the taking of Lord Cornwallis etc. etc. and was lawfully discharged after the war at West Point original declaration. And I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March, 1818, and that I have not, since that time, by gift, sale, it in any manner, disposed of my property, or any part thereof, with intent thereby to diminish it, as to bring myself within the provisions of the act of Congress, entitled "An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States, in the Revolutionary War," passed on the 18th day of March, 1818; and that I have not, nor has any person in trust for me, any property or securities, contracts, or debts, due to me; nor have I any income other than what is contained in the Schedule hereto annexed, and by me subscribed. Schedule of my property one pocket knife valued 15 cents due for my work this summer 10.00 due me cash my last pension money 15.00 (total) 25.15 I owe a debt of fifty dollars which I was imprisoned for last year. I have been assisted by the town of Guilford for some years past. My occupation is a day laborer on the farms of those who employ me & am commonly able to do half a day's work in a day & no more. I have no family to take care of but myself & no place of residence but with those who employ me at work. I have had a large family have now 5 children who provide at this time for themselves.
