The photo was the only surviving formal photo taken due to the efforts of his 
daughter Lucille.  At the time of the taking of the photo he resided in New 
London with her and her first husband W. Zachary Watrous. There is some water 
damage on the original and the scanned photo is edited as a result.

William was the oldest child of John Lawrence and Sophia Salina McKnight Stark 
born in Waddington, New York August 23, 1875.  He lost his left eye while 
chopping wood and the photo "includes" his glass eye.

He was second husband to Florence Ruth Watrous and father of three daughters 
with her who grew to adulthood.  There was another daughter from a former 
relationship.

He was a veteran of the Spanish American War. He died June 23, 1959 at Rocky 
Hill, Connecticut (Veteran's Hospital) and is buried at Arlington National 
Cemetery.
