Sterling Advocate, Page 7 Joseph Clark Tyler, departed this life December 22nd, of pneumonia. He was born in Tylerville, Connecticut, August 31, 1813, and was 89 years old. He was the son of Simon and Sarah Clark Tyler, and came to Kentucky when about 25 years old and located in Bath County, near Sharpsburg. His first wife was Elizabeth A. Gossett, daughter of Rev. Matthias Gosset, of the Old Baptist Church, for whom a branch of the church, was named Gessettties . To this union was born 6 children, three of whom are living, M. S. Tyler, lawyer, of Louisville, W. T. Tyler, manager of Star Planing Mill Co., and Mrs. W. W. Reed, of Seattle, Washington. He was also an uncle of Judge W. H. Holt, former Chief Justice of Kentucky and now Judge of Porto Rico. His second wife was Mrs. Sarah J. Jones, sister to his first wife, and his third wife, Mrs. Margaret J. Tyler, survives him. He was a farmer and numbered as one of the wealthy men of this section. He was a consistent member and deacon of the Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at the Baptist Church Wednesday morning at 10:30, assisted by Rev. J. C. Abbott. Burial at Machpelah Cemetery. Mr. Tyler had always been an active man and a fine financier.
