Apr. 15, 1782: Selectmen, indenture of Salmon Champion of Lebanon. Elijah Loomis Jr., son of Elijah Loomis of Lebanon, who cannot provide competently for his children. Until age 16 ("for the term of two years" - crossed out) Sept. 17, 1782: Bond of Ozias Coleman, late Constable of Lebanon and Collector of State Taxes in said town for the year 1775; now residing in Beckwith, Berkshire County, Massachusetts; for L214, blance due on state tax of 1775. Nov. 24, 1787: Bond of Nathan Loomis of Lebanon, L200. One Jerusha Larrabee, who is now and for many years has been a resident of this town and has spent much of her time in the service of Mr. Ichabod Freeman of Lebanon, deceased, and also in the service of the subscriber...it being the purpose and desire of the said Freeman that said town should be secured from any expense for the support of Jerusha during her natural life, and the subscriber having become interested in the estate of the said deceased by intermarriage with said deceased's daughter...(he is) willing to receive the services of said Jerusha and to indemnify the town from any future expense. (Note: Ichabod Freeman died in Lebanon about 1785, leaving widow Anne and daughter Phebe, wife of Nathan Loomis.) Apr. 10, 1788: Bond of Jesse Wright of Lebanon, L300. Seth Bartlett hath by deed of even date conveyed all his real estate in Lebanon and by bill of sale hath conveyed all his personal estate to said Wright, the said Wright to support said Seth Bartlett and his wife Patty, alias Martha, for life. Apr. 28, 1788: Selectmen, indenture to Joseph Loomis of Lebanon and his wife Mary. Clarissa Allen, until age 18, on May 17, 1794. Oct. 3, 1788: Bond of William Gay of Lebanon. The abovesaid William Gay hath desired the privilege of taking into his family and in all respects comfortably supporting and maintaining one Sarah Cutting, an aged woman, mother-in-law to the said Gay; to receive three shillings per week from the town. Feb. 9, 1789: Bond of Daniel Tyler of Lebanon, L600. Daniel Tyler and wife Martha, now far advanced in years, have lately come from the State of New Hampshire; son Daniel bonding himself to indemnify town from any future expense, they being permitted to remain in Lebanon. Mar. 9, 1789: Selectmen, indenture to Bezaleel Fuller of Lebanon Alexander Loomis, son to Elijah Loomis of Lebanon; until age 21, he being age 17 on Mar. 4 instant. Tanning and shoemaking. June 8, 1789: Selectmen, indenture to Elijah Hyde Jr. George Vaughan, until age 17, he being age 7 on Feb. 6, 1789. Art of husbandry. Feb. 2, 1790: Eleazar Hutchinson Jr. testified that his son Amaziah left Lebanon in March 1784, and had never been in said town except for a visit; asked that he be taken off the tax lists and that Amaziah's tax of Aug. 1785 be abated. Feb. 17, 1790: Selectmen, indenture to Asa Torrey of Lebanon. Robert Polly, until age 21; he age 13 on April 22 next. Blacksmithing. Mar. 22, 1790: Selectmen, indenture to Asahel Williams of Lebanon and wife Esther. Hannah Polly, until age 18, on March 1, 1798. Apr. 1, 1790: Samuel Fish and Paul Newcomb, agreement with the Selectmen to support Samuel Thomas and his wife Sarah for one year from date thereof. Sept. 26, 1790: Selectmen, indenture to James Clark and Anna Lyman Clark, widow, of Lebanon. Mary Vaughan, until age 18; she age 14 on Feb. 14 last. Apr. 16, 1791: Agreement between Selectmen and Thomas Snow of Lebanon. Support of his mother, Abigail Snow, widow of Abraham Snow, late of Lebanon, deceased; to pay her funeral expenses also. Witnesses: Elijah Teasdale, Robert Snow. Jan. 12, 1792: Bond of John Brown of Lebanon, L300. Whereas one Caroline Howard, granddaughter to the said John Brown, has been resident in Lebanon almost twelve months but is not an inhabitant, Selectmen agree to permit her to remain, said Brown guaranteeing no expense to the town. Feb. 27, 1792: Bond of Zina Hyde of Lebanon, L300. Whereas Susannah Bosworth, mother-in-law of the said Zina Hyde, has been resident in Lebanon almost twelve months but is not an inhabitant; to be permitted to remain and become an inhabitant, Zina indemnifying the town from future expense. Feb. 27, 1792: Selectmen, indenture to Abner Clark of Lebanon. Polly Lyman, daughter of Jabez Lyman, until age 18; sbe age 8 on Oct. 15, 1791. Dec. 9, 1793: Selectmen, indenture to Capt. Elias Bliss of Lebanon. Levi Rich, so-called, a bastard child of Eunice Thomas, said child born and supported for a considerable time at the expense of the town. Until age 21, he being born July 16, 1787. Art of husbandry. Nov. 27, 1797: Selectmen, indenture to Ezekiel Wickwire of Lebanon Polly Lyman, a poor child of Lebanon; until age 18, she being age 13 on Oct. 15, 1796 Nov. 20, 1798: Selectmen, indenture to Chandler Bartlett of Lebanon. Justus Finney, who hath no person to take care of him. Until age 21; he age 10 on Feb. 2 last Nov. 26, 1798: Selectmen, indenture to Daniel Haines of Lebanon Frederick Finney; until age 21; age not given. Art of making shoes. Dec. 3, 1798: Vote in town meeting authorized payment of $20.00 to Dan Payne to enable him to remove himself and family to the State of Vermont on his giving security to do so in the course of the present winter. Jan. 7, 1799: Isaiah Loomis of Lebanon agreed with Selectmen to remove or cause to be removed the said Payne and family to Vermont some time before the following spring Jan. 20, 1800: Selectmen, indenture to Elisha Bogue of Colchester Lovisa McCarty, a poor child who has been supported by the town and hath no person to take care of or provide for her. Until age 18; she age 5 on Aug. 14 last. Mar. 10, 1800: Selectmen of Lebanon to Selectmen of Coventry: Roxillana Case, daughter of Ebenezer Case of Lebanon, deceased, was born in Lebanon on Nov. 9, 1762; hath resided part of the time in Lebanon and part of the time in Coventry, where she now resides and hath resided for nearly six years, supported by a friend or froends who are desirous to support her in Coventry. Lebanon signified that it was willing that Roxillana would not thereby gain residence in Coventry if she so stayed and that Lebanon would ensure her future support if need be. Impossible for me to come to Lebanon at present as my youngest child sick (dropsy of brain) and not expected to live. Indebted to my aunt a smallsum, which I expect to repay shortly, but I do not expect to support her. She came to my house Jan. 1, 1807. In Sept. 1812 she went to Tyringham and stayed until June 1813. She moved a considerable part of her efefects, though not her bed. "It has ever been my opinion that her going there would prevent her becoming an inhabitant of Lebanon. When she went from my house to Tyringham I did not expect she would ever return there again. Next morning he arose, walked out a small distance and returned. While sitting by the fire he had an attack of numb palsy which shut his left eye and destroyed the use of his left arm and leg....Had his reason for six days, then had another shock and died Feb. 25th. Buried the next day. Said his father's name was Phjilip Gay and lived in Lebanon, where he was born and brought up. Said his name and date of his birth was in the town records of Lebanon. 1818: Mr. Selden Davis sent money for support of his father, $72.00. Oct. 24, 1838: Selectmen of Colchester notified Selectmen of Lebanon that Mrs. Roxy Wells, widow of Oliver Wells, and their son Justin Wells, both inhabitants of Lebanon, had been on expense for some time. 1839-40: Selectmen bound out to Peleg G. Thomas one of Stephen Brown's children, viz., Frances Ann Brown (between Oct. 1, 1839 and Oct. 1, 1840) Apr. 22, 1839: Selectmen of Colchester notified Town of Lebanon that Henry Beckwith's wife and two children were on expense.
