Bill for support of Mary Beckwith, Oct. 24 to Nov. 29, 1837. Nov. 11, 1837: Windsor to Lebanon. Colored girl named Lucretia Hardy is in our poor house. (Lebanon denied that she was an inhabitant.) Nov. 18,, 1837: Norwich to Lebanon. Dorcas Watson, colored woman, on expense. (Lebanon denied that she was an inhabitant.) Dec. 20, 1837: Lebanon to Westport. Yours of the 7th of Dec. received....Charles Otis never gained a legal residence here. Jan. 19, 1838: Lebanon to Coventry. Request for funeral expenses for Elias Judd. Mar. 1, 1838: Franklin to Lebanin. Alpheus Cairy, a colored man, and his wife are on expense. Mar. 30, 1838: Lebanon to Voluntown. William Peckham Clark on expense. He is in the south part of town at the house of Mrs. Clark. Apr. 10, 1838: Lebanon to Franklin. In case of Alpheus Cairy, you sent him a load of wood without his request and which he did not need at all, he being able to support himself and wife. He is not an inhabitant of Lebanon. Apr. 17, 1838: Voluntown to Lebanon. Yours of the 30th of Mar. received, saying that a man by the name of William P. Clark was sick. William P. Clark was the son of Jesse Clark from Hopkinton, R.I. Clark married in this town but never lived here but a very few years. Apr. 26, 1838: Hebron to Lebanon. Nathan Lee & family are on expense. Apr. 29, 1838: Franklin to Lebanon. Colored woman calling herself Way Briggs is very sick. May 20, 1838: Lebanon to Voluntown. Bill for support of William P. Clark 6 days from Mar. 25 to Mar. 31, 1838; funeral expenses. June 16, 1838: Voluntown to Lebanon. Yours of the 20th of May received....bill for funeral expenses and support of William P. Clark. William P. Clark, his father and mother, were never residents of this town and never lived here six years at any one time. Aug. 1, 1838: New London to Lebanon. A poor deranged female who calls herself Mary Beckwith is on expense. Aug. 13, 1838: New London to Lebanon. Second notice concerning Mary Beckwith. Aug. 17, 1838: Lebanon to New London. A deranged person named Mary Beckwith left the poor house some weeks since. She has run away several times but usually goes to the north. We will pay her expenses until our poor contractor can take her away. Oct. 8, 1838: Lebanon to Henry Kilbourn Esq. in Hartford. An Englishman named James Holden is sick here. He says he was taken prisoner in the Macedonian and has been a soldier in General Atkinson's Division Missouri. He was taken sick on Friday last. Oct. 11, 1838: Franklin to Lebanon. Erastus Brown & wife are sick and on expense. Oct. 22, 1838: Vernon to Lebanon. Joseph Bodge, a man who has been a resident of your town about 10 years past and is said not to be a resident of this state is in this town in a state of insanity and need. Oct. 24, 1838: Colchester to Lebanon. Mrs. Roxy Wells, widow of Oliver Wells, and their son Justin are sick and destitute. Oct. 30, 1838: Erastus Brown and wife are still on expense, and now they have a child, likewise on expense. Nov. 21, 1838: New London to Lebanon. A Daniels family, Alfred Daniels I think, is on expense. Jan. 21, 1839: North Stonington to Lebanon. Benjamin Wilber and wife have been on expense since 14th of Dec. last. Said Wilber owned real estate in Lebanon. Apr. 22, 1839: Colchester to Lebanon. Achish Button has been sick for some time; his wife & several children on expense. May 22, 1839: Colchester to Lebanon. Bill for supporting Roxy Wells and her son Justin Wells from Oct. 24, 1838 for 30 weeks to this time. May 25, 1839: Franklin to Lebanon. Mary Brown, child of Erastus Brown, is sick and on expense. Nov. 30, 1839: Lebanon to Coventry. Charles Melony, a pauper, is on expense. Dec. 10, 1839: North Stonington to Lebanon. Henry Beckwith's wife and three children are on expense. She is expecting to be confined in Mar. next. Beckwith left her about the 1st of last July. Dec. 11, 1839: New London to Lebanon. Two men in this prison, confined for military fines: William H. Greenwood and Griswold Chapman. They are unable to support themselves. Lebanon is liable for gaoler's fees and expenses. (Signed) Champlin Lester, gaoler.
