Brown buwbrown @ comcast.net September 24, 2008, 4:15 pm Lebanon, Selectmen's Records, 1837-1878: Jan. 30, 1848: New Haven to Lebanon. Henry Dwight, a colored boy aged about 21 years, on expense. He states that his father, Enoch Dwight, was brought up in the family of Rev. Mr. Pomeroy in Lebanon,. Henry has lived with Mr. Eliphalet Huntington and came into this town a short time since. Feb. 9, 1848: Lyme to Lebanon. Wife and 3 children of Nathaniel A. Button on expense. We applied to Windham, and they state that the Buttons are inhabitants of Lebanon. Mrs. Button states that her husband is the illegitimate son of a woman who became the lawful wife of a Lebanon man named Snow. We suppose that Button never gained a residence anywhere on his own right. Mr. H. Wells, Selectman of Windham, says that some of the family were on expense in Windham a few years ago, and Lebanon paid the bills. Button has gone away and left his family entirely destitute; they have been on expense since Jan. 10. Feb. 14, 1848: Lebanon to New Haven. There has been no such person as Rev. Mr. Pomeroy in Lebanon for the past century. Mr. Eliphalet Huntington does not remember ever having had anyone named Henry Dwight in his family. Feb. 21, 1848: Lebanon to Lyme. Nathaniel A. Button, wife and children are not inhabitants. Mar. 10, 1848: Preston to Lebanon. Jesse Brewster, wife & 3 children on expense. Jesse Brewster and family not inhabitants of Lebanon. July 26, 1848: Norwich to Lebanon. Lydia Jane Polly and her infant child on expense. Miss Polly is about 19 years of age, daughter of Johnson Polly, son of Joshua Polly, now of Lisbon. We supposed from the girl's history of herself that she belonged to that town; Lisbon says that Johnson Polly was born in Lebanon and lived there until he was aged 21. He then left Lebanon, resided and had a family in New York State; about 6 or 8 years ago he returned to Connecticut and resided in Lisbon 2 or 3 years until his death.
