Voted that a tax of 3 farthings on the pound be raised immediately to help support Stephen Taylor's family. Dec. 14, 1741 Voted that town pay Ens. Ephraim Wells toward the support of his wife's lame boy that is now with him. Voted to pay Richard Carrier for keeping Stephen Taylor's wife & children Paid Thomas Willey for keeping S. Taylor's child Dec. 17, 1744 Paid Samuel Brown for keeping Hannah Brown Paid Samuel Loomis Jr. for keeping Hannah Brown 6 weeks Paid Noah Pomeroy for keeping Hannah Brown 13 weeks Feb. 4, 1745 Paid John Bulkeley for medicine, etc. for Hannah Brown Paid Cornelius Roberts for providing wood for White Apr. 2, 1746 Representatives instructed to ask Governor & Council if expenses for maintaining John White and family may be ordered out of the public treasury from time to time Dec. 8, 1746 Voted that the selectmen bind out Jonathan, son of John Kneeland, to Joseph Kneeland to save the town paying expenses in the future Dec. 14, 1747 Paid Isaac Bigelow Jr. for having Hannah Brown in his home 31 weeks 3 days Paid Jonathan Northam for keeping White's child 39 weeks Voted to pay charges of sickness in Ebenezer Hamlin's family and "for their comfort and support" Paid Cornelius Roberts for keeping White's child Voted to build a small house about 10 feet square for Hannah Brown; on the west side of the town street near Deacon Loomis' cider mill Apr. 11, 1748 Contracted with Thomas Day to take care of White's child that is now with him until it reach the age of 18 Contracted with Jonathan Gates to take care of John White's child that is now living with Jonathan Northam until she reach age 18 Dec. 5, 1748 Paid Cornelius Roberts for expenses of White child's funeral Dec. 4, 1749 Whereas Jeremiah Foster and his wife & family are come to reside in this town contrary to the orders of the selectmen, the selectmen are directed to remove them to Sharon, the place of said Foster's last legal abode. In case said Foster should return again to make his abode in this town the selectmen are directed to bind him & his family out in service Dec. 25, 1752 Granted L40 to Joseph Pepoon on account of Foster's child being taken from him. Hebron concerning Joseph Dean Dec. 17, 1762 Contributions to be collected for James Roberts, Ebenezer Hamlin, Clement Daniels and Ebenezer Hurd "under their present needy circumstances" June 15, 1768 Remitted fine of 20 shillings to Nathaniel Garnsey imposed on his wife for breach of the peace Mar. 4, 1770 Directed selectmen to pay passage of John Commock and family to Nova Scotia provided he procure passage and does actually move there with his family. June 22, 1772 Voted to defray charges of moving John Commock and his family and Samuel Francis and his family and Churchill Commook and her two youngest children to Canada. Dec. 9, 1773 Paid Dr. Turner for what he had done for Sarah French June 17, 1774 Job Chamberlain is in a languishing state and his circumstances are low, indigent and depressed; his house and land to be sold and the selectmen to look after the matter and defend him as much as possible Jan. 17, 1775 Selectmen directed to collect the poor of the town, except the widow Wells, widow Collet and Betty Coleman, together in some convenient house Sept. 15, 1778 Col. William Whiting of Norwich contracted to support the widow Collitt from July 1, 1778 to July 1, 1779 May 31, 1779 Selectmen directed to apply to County Court for appointment of a conservator to take care of affairs of Hannah Waters, an aged impotent person and now an expense to the town, to recover her support out of the estate left by her deceased father Mar. 20, 1780 Selectmen directed to agree with Timothy and Lazarus Waters to support Hannah Waters for the rest of his life, and if any of Hannah's brethren become chargeable to the town, they shall be supported by the town June 28, 1769 Alexander Dodge in 1765 had his estate taken from him, he being incompetent to carry on his own affairs; he now giving evidence of his reformation, the handling of his own affairs is returned to him Dec. 11, 1781 Selectmen to dispose of Phebe Watson's clothes and the proceeds of the sale to go into the town treasury Dec. 15, 1783 Voted to suspend removal of Jacob Carter out of town at present Jan. 15, 1795 Benjamin Staples' taxes to be abated as long as he supports his mother Dec. 8, 1794 Town has been supporting the widow Coleman Sept. 15, 1796 Selectmen to use their discretion relative to further proceedings against the heirs of Jonathan Kellogg Sr., deceased, for the recovery of expense of supporting Ned Carter Dec. 5, 1796 Selectmen to agree with Lieut.
