---For Submitters--- Submitting Images of photos, documents, etc.: 1. Use GIF and JPEG images, never use the BMP extension. 2. Scan images at 300 dpi or less. 3. Limit the width of the files to 500 pixels or 7 inches. 4. Limit the resolution to: 75 (this helps make the image smaller and easier to upload). ---For Parish File Managers--- Adding Photographs and Scanned Documents to your website: ***Two entries for each document*** would be made in the TOC, one for the transcribed copy in the FTP directory, and one for the image in the HTML directory. For archives with a number of photos, make a list of the names of the subjects and or people and post as a text file. (see examples below) HTML pages are not located by the USGenWeb Archives search engine. For photos: 1. The HTML page with links to the Photo images listed in the TOC. (example) http://www.usgwarchives.net/ct/newhaven/newhavn-photos.htm 2. A text file containing a list of the photos located in your TOC. I usually place the link to this list at the top of the TOC for the photos. (see above URL) Documents: 1. The HTML page with links to the Document image in the TOC 2. A transcription of the document is placed on the FTP site. A link to this transcription should be placed beneath the link to the acutal image. (Which do be honest, I don't do. I only place the link in the index page.
