Brown Jr., 79, of Jefferson Street, Hazardville section of Enfield, and a summer resident of Narragansett, R.I., beloved husband of 51 years of Pauline "Polly" (Turgeon) Brown, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in the Thompsonville section of Enfield, he was a lifetime resident of the community. Raleigh was a graduate of Enfield High School, class of 1940, and American International College, class of 1944. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. Raleigh owned and operated Brown Electric from 1950 until his retirement in 1990. He attended the Hazardville United Methodist Church, was a 55-year member of Doric Lodge No. 94 A.F. & A.M., and served as past master, trustee, and on the building committee. Raleigh was a member of Suffield Council R.&S.M. No. 23, Washington Chapter of the R.A.M. No. 30, Washington Commandry No. 1, Melha Temple, where he served in the Hadja Unit, and the Melha Mariners Unit serving as commodore, and a 50-year member of the Enfield Society for the Detection of Thieves and Robbers. He was an avid sailor and a 45-year member of the Point Judith Yacht Club. Besides his wife, Polly, Raleigh is survived by a son, David A. Brown and his wife, Deborah of Glastonbury; a daughter, Cynthia Gogulski and her husband, Michael of Westfield, Mass.; two grandchildren, Allison Brown and Andrew Gogulski; a brother, Ronald C. Brown of Stafford Springs; a sister, Delores Allen of Enfield; and a cousin, Dorothy Risley of Vernon. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Suffield. Raleigh's family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, and a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
