Obit: Vivian Moir Banas, Obituary, May 6, 2001 Source: Journal Inquirer Manchester,CT (issue May 7, 2001) Submitter: ABishop, May 2001 ***************************************************************************** BANAS Vivian Moir Banas, 88, wife of Teddy Banas, died after a short illness Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born in Cumberland, Md., Jan. 16, 1913, daughter of Paul Keys and Mary (Childers) Keys, she lived in East Hartford for more than 60 years. She attended area schools and graduated from Hartford Secretarial School. Vivian lived a long, full life. She distinguished herself as a security guard at Pratt & Whitney during World War II. She retired from Fred Dubin Associates in 1975. Her hobbies included square dancing, gardening, and canning. She won many awards at various town fairs for her home-grown and preserved fruits and vegetables. She will always be remembered for her bread and butter pickles. Mrs. Banas was a dedicated volunteer. She was active in Red Cross blood drives and many community projects. She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Manchester, where she taught nursery school and served in many other capacities. Mrs. Banas is survived by her seven children, Loretta and husband Daniel Dienst of East Hartford, Sandra D'Attilio of East Hartford, Christine Phillips of East Hartford, Kirk and wife Kay Moir of Jessup, Md., Richard and wife Marilyn Moir of Mansfield, Francis and wife Maureen Moir of South Windsor, and Verne and wife Linda Moir of Orlando, Fla.; plus 30 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and her dear friend, June Tompkins of Manchester. Mrs. Banas was predeceased by her first husband, Charles E. Moir; second husband, Joseph Ruby; and a son, Lynn H. Moir. Mrs. Banas was active until her recent illness and passed away with her family at her bedside. She was a loved and loving mother and grandmother, giving each member of her family a final farewell and her blessing to live a good life. There will be a funeral procession at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, with services at 10:30 a.m. at the Mormon Church, 30 Woodside St., Manchester. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the funeral home.
