Obit: Claire (Joyal) Briggs, Obituary, March 10, 2003 Source: Journal Inquirer Manchester,CT (issue March 11, 2003) Submitter: ABishop, March 2003 ***************************************************************************** BRIGGS Claire (Joyal) Briggs, age 80, of Plumtree Road, Springfield, widow of Major Earle W. Briggs, ret. USAF of 60 years, who died Feb. 19, 2003, entered into eternal rest Monday March 10, 2003, at home. Claire was born in Holyoke, MA, and had been a resident of Enfield since 1967 and later moved to Springfield in 2001. She was employed at G.M.A.C. in Syracuse, NY. She was a communicant of St. Bernard Church and Holy Cross Church. She was also a member of the John Maciolek Post #154 American Legion Auxiliary. Claire loved bowling, knitting, and Bingo. She is survived by three sons, Kenneth W. Briggs and his wife, Raquel, of Farmers Branch, TX, Thomas Briggs and his wife, Georgia, of Springfield, MA, with whom she made her home, and Earl W. Briggs and his wife, Lucy, of Wilder, VT; two daughters, Patricia A. Ross and her husband, Jack, of North Syracuse, NY, and Rebecca Hudson and her husband, Phillip, of Marrietta, NY; eight grandchildren; two great-grandsons; a brother, Roland Joyal of Chicopee, MA; and two sisters, Rita Dec of Agawam, MA and Cecile Noiseux of Chicopee. Claire was predeceased by two brothers, Rene and William Joyal, and a sister, Lucy Gable. Family and friends will gather Thursday 9:45 a.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, for a funeral procession to St. Bernard Church, 426 Hazard Ave. (Route 190), Enfield, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Hazardville Cemetery. Claire's family will receive relatives and friends at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, Wednesday, 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations in Claire's memory may be made to Holy Cross School, 153 Eddywood St., Springfield, MA 01118. *********************************************** Copyright.
