Bellard, 64, of Coventry, beloved husband of Joyce (Carilli) Bellard, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Hartford Hospital, with his family by his side. Roger was born Aug. 12, 1936, in North Adams, Mass., son of the late Antonio and Lillian (Eurbin) Bellard, and was a resident of Coventry for the last 41 years. Robert was a U.S. Army veteran, and had served as a military policeman. Roger was employed by the town of Coventry for 27 years as superintendent of streets, and had served as supernumerary policeman when Coventry first started its police department. Roger was chief of the Coventry Volunteer Fire Association from September 1969 to September 1976, and was named Honorary Chief for Life. He was a member of the AMVets Post No. 2 in Windham. Besides Roger's wife, Joyce, of 17 years, he is survived by a daughter, Robin Bellard Berros of Columbia; a grandson, Justin Michael Berros of Columbia; four stepsons, Mark A. Carilli of Chester, Vt., Joseph M. Carilli of Coventry, James F. Carilli of Cromwell, and Gerald W. Carilli of Lebanon; a sister, Dorothy DeSanty of North Adams; two brothers, Antonio Bellard of Burlington, N.J., and Robert Bellard of North Adams; many loving stepgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Roger was predeceased by three sisters, Elizabeth Estes, Marion Jones, and Carol Bellard. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, from the Coventry Funeral Home, 2665 Boston Turnpike (Route 44), Coventry, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 1600 Main St., Coventry. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the funeral home.
