TITLE: Landis Sherman Cooper, Obituary, March 4, 2003 SUBMITTERS: Journal Inquirer Manchester,CT (issue March 7, 2003) FORMATTED: ABishop, March 2003 ***************************************************************************** Landis Sherman Cooper Landis Sherman "Coop" Cooper, 79, of Manchester, beloved husband of Mary Jane (Pitkin) Cooper, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at a local convalescent home. He was born March 26, 1923, in Hartford, son of the late Landis S. Cooper Sr. and Elizabeth (Taschner) Cooper, and had been a resident of Manchester since 1968. Mr. Cooper was a graduate of Trinity College. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in both the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard. Prior to retiring, he was employed as a quality assurance engineer at Pratt & Whitney for more than 20 years. Following his retirement Mr. Cooper worked for Sweet Life Foods and later for Filene's. He enjoyed the people he worked with very much. Besides his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Susan Cooper and Pamm Cooper, both of Manchester, Leslie Adams and her husband, Gary, of Manchester, and Barbara Cooper-DuPlessis and her husband, Clay, of Deep River; four grandsons, Ian and Cameron Jones, Benjamin Adams, and Steven Abbott to whom he was like a father; and his mother-in-law, Alice Pitkin of Manchester. Mr. Cooper was predeceased by his sister, Alice (Cooper) Kerch. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. Burial in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill, will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at the funeral home.
