Clark Robert J. "Bob" Clark, 68, beloved husband of Ruth (Ahearn) Clark of Suffield, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at home. Born in Holyoke, Mass., on Oct. 15, 1932, son of the late Francis and Leona (Larrow) Clark, he had lived in Enfield for 22 years and was actively involved with Holy Family Church before moving to Suffield 20 years ago. Mr. Clark graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Holyoke in 1950 and the University of Massachusetts in 1955. He received an honorary doctorate degree in 1992 from St. Joseph College, West Hartford. Before retiring in 1998 Mr. Clark was the president and CEO of American Nuclear Insurers, West Hartford, and prior to that was employed at Aetna Life and Casualty for 34 years, including eight years as president, commercial insurance division. During his career, Mr. Clark served as chairman of the board for Hartford Healthcare Corporation, Hartford Hospital, St. Joseph College, Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges, Insurance Association of Connecticut, and Insurance Services Office. In addition, he served as a board member of American Insurance Association, Connecticut Business and Industry Association, Mark Twain Memorial, United Way of the Capital Area, Better Business Bureau, Greater Hartford Chamber of Commerce, Visiting Nurse Association of Connecticut, UMass Business Advisory Council, and The Hartford Mutual Fund. He was a member and past president of Suffield Country Club, and was a board member of Suffield Emergency Aid and the Suffield Ethics Commission. Along with his wife, he was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Suffield. Besides his wife of 44 years, Ruth, he leaves two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert P. Clark and Tina of Enfield, and Stephen F. Clark and Karen of Needham, Mass.; six daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen M. and David Castonguay of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Mary Ellen and Edward Flynn of Sparta, N.J., Lorraine A. and Peter Bent of Enfield, Eileen R. and Stephen King of Cicero, N.Y., Elizabeth T. and William Evans of Enfield, and Maureen F. and Mark Mandirola of West Suffield; a sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Richard LaFleur of North Dartmouth, Mass.; 19 grandchildren, Kaileigh, Harrison, Andrew, Samuel, Amy, Brian, Kevin, Melanie, Sarah, Molly, Alexander, Hannah, Haley, Jennifer, Robert, Katherine, Megan, Emily, and Julia; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends may gather at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St., Suffield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Mountain Road, Suffield. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Suffield. His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, April 30, at the funeral home.
