(Johnson) Converse, 83, of Bolton, formerly of Manchester, died Friday, March 28, 2003, at Rockville General Hospital. She was born in Wallingford, May 11, 1919, daughter of the late Philip and Lydia (Peterson) Johnson, and had resided in Manchester for 13 years before moving to Bolton in 1952. Prior to retiring she had been the recreational director at Crestfield Convalescent Home, Manchester. She was an active member of Bolton Congregational Church, a member of Bolton Senior Citizens, the Art Community, and a past president of the Manchester Art Association. Ruth also traveled the world and she loved camping and fishing with her grandchildren. Mrs. Converse is survived by two sons, Lawrence A. Converse III and his wife, Joan, of Bolton, Philip L. Converse of East Hartford; three daughters, Dail C. Negro and her husband, Gilbert, of Hebron, Phyllis C. Daly and her husband, John, of Bolton, Ellen R. Converse and her husband, Chris Nardine of Seattle, WA; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a nephew. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 2, 11 a.m. at Bolton Congregational Church, 228 Bolton Center Road, Bolton. Burial will be in In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford. Family and friends may call Tuesday, April 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester.
