Born in Greenfield, Mass., son of the late William and Ellen (Hamer) Cunningham, he had lived in West Suffield since 1966. Prior to his retirement in 1995, he was employed by the Advest Co., Hartford, for 15 years. Bruce was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force, serving his country for more than 20 years before retiring from the Air Force in 1966. His last assignment before retirement was Base Engine Manager at the 52nd Fighter Wing, Suffolk County Air Force Base, New York. Bruce was a 45-year member of Riverhead Lodge No. 645, A.F. & A.M., Long Island, N.Y. He attended Western New England College, Springfield, and the University of Maryland. He was an avid bridge player, playing in Suffield and Vernon, and loved to travel. Besides his loving wife of more than 49 years, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William B. and Linda Cunningham of Sturbridge, Mass.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda J. and Robert Poland of Lexington Park, Md., and Ellen L. Hardy of West Suffield; four grandchildren, Catherine, Marion, and Chad Poland, and Michelle Hardy; two sisters, Barbara Morrow and her husband, Arthur, of St. Helena Island, S.C., and Janet Dines and her husband, Allen, of Hope Sound, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by a grandson, Patrick Cunningham. A Masonic service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the family home, followed by a memorial service with the Rev. Stuart Charter officiating, and William Kessler will play taps. His family will receive friends from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at their home.
