"Hip" Correnti, 81, of Manchester, husband of Edith (Bolles) Correnti and the father of the late Gary E. Correnti, died unexpectedly on Monday, May 7, 2001, at Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was born in Italy on Jan. 27, 1920, son of the late Paul and Mary (Rossetto) Correnti, and had resided in Manchester for the past 76 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 2nd Infantry Division in Europe. He was a communicant of St. James Church. At the time of his death he was proprietor and half owner of the Holiday Lanes in Manchester. He was the founder of Multi Circuits of Manchester, and the former Correnti Insurance Agency. He also was the owner of US Glass Fiber Company. He was a well-known duckpin bowler, nationally ranked for many years. He was inducted into the Manchester Sports Hall of Fame in 1987 as a nationally ranked duckpin bowler and fast pitch softball star, and in the BAC/CBOA State of Connecticut Duckpin Hall of Fame on June 6, 1987, for superior performance, and in the Bowlers Association of Connecticut, for Bowler of the Century, Millennium Award, on Oct. 28, 2000. He was also a low handicap golfer with a hole-in-one. He was the owner of Hip C. Stables in Columbia, breeding, raising, and racing thoroughbred horses. He won letters in four high school sports, and as reported in a prior newspaper clipping, "Maurice "Hip' Correnti -- owner of the Duckpin Holiday Lanes -- was a versatile standout athlete at Manchester High, winning letters in four sports, baseball, basketball, tennis, and soccer. Tabbed the "Boy Wonder' in state bowling competitions as a teen-ager, he won local town championships and gained national ranking. He's now a low handicap golfer." Besides his wife, Edith, Mr. Correnti is survived by two daughters, Gale Correnti and Susan Lisciotti; six grandchildren, Kerry LaCosta, Melissa Fox, Jennifer Maneri, Justin Mendenhall, Lance Lisciotti, and McKenzie Lisciotti; three great-grandchildren, Henry Provencher, Jessica Provencher, and Madison Maneri; and a brother, Paul Correnti. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather who will be missed by all; he was our best friend and our rock. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, May 11, at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. James Church, 896 Main St., Manchester. Burial with military honors will be in St. James Cemetery, Manchester. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at the funeral home.
