DeFord Walter L. DeFord, 92, formerly of Shaker Road, Enfield, entered into eternal rest Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford. He was born in Hartford on May 13, 1908, the son of the late William and Georgianna (Moquin) DeFord. He resided in Enfield most of his life. Walter was formerly employed by Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co. and later with Command Aircraft for many years, and retired in 1970. He was affiliated with the Enfield Auxiliary Police for 37 years and was a member of Elks Lodge 2099 of Lebanon, N.H. He is survived by three sons, William DeFord, George DeFord, and Gerard DeFord; two daughters, Rose-Marie Caffrey and Irene Pehl; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Maher) DeFord, in February 1996. The funeral service for Walter will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, April 27, from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church. The committal service will be in St. Patrick King Street Cemetery, Enfield. The DeFord family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at the funeral home.
