DeSantis, 81, of East Hartford, loving husband for 54 years of the late Josephine (Polcaro) DeSantis, entered into eternal rest on Thursday (March 27, 2003) at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Alberona, Italy, a son of the late Alfred and Nancy (Cecere) DeSantis, he had resided in East Hartford since 1955. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II where he was a flight engineer for the 5th Air Force in the Pacific Theater. Prior to his retirement in 1983, he was employed for 27 years as a sheet metal mechanic by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford. He was a former member of Blessed Sacrament Church, East Hartford, the Knights of Columbus-Council #3901, East Hartford, and the Pratt & Whitney Retirees Club. He was also known for his woodworking projects. Mr. DeSantis is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Al and Chris DeSantis of East Hartford; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Raymond Lewie of Boynton Beach, FL, Maryanne and Robert Rohner of Manchester; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Irene DeSantis of Sun City, AZ; eight beloved grandchildren, Jessica DeSantis, Michael DeSantis and his fiancée, Kara Cogliati, Erica Lewie and her fiancée, Matthew Shay, Alison Lewie, Steven Lewie and his special friend, Nicole Tatasciore, Katherine Lewie, Lindsey Rohner, Douglas Rohner; a great-granddaughter, Gianna; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be celebrated on Monday (March 31, 2003) at 10:30 AM at D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday (March 30) from 2-5 PM. Memorial contributions in Anthony's name may be made to a favorite charity of the donor's choice. The family of Mr. DeSantis would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the entire staff at St. Francis Hospital ICU unit for their professionalism, special care, and support given to them.
