Drost, 71, of Vernon, beloved husband of Barbara (Diedert) Drost, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Rockville General Hospital. He was born Dec. 23, 1929, in New York, N.Y., and had resided in Vernon most of his life. John was a two-term Vernon mayor, served on the Vernon Town Council and numerous boards, commissions, and committees in Vernon, and was a chief deputy sheriff for Tolland County. He was past president of the Vernon Board of Realtors, a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, Rockville Lodge of Elks 1359, and Rockville American Legion Post 14. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict. Besides his wife of 37 years, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Lee Anne Drost of Vernon. During his retirement, his love was spending time with his grandchildren, John William and Sarah Elizabeth. A blessing will be held at noon Thursday, April 12, at St. Bernard Church, Rockville. Burial with military honors will be in St. Bernard Cemetery, Rockville. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, April 11, at Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville.
