Falkowski Walter J. Falkowski, of Main St., Scitico, died Jan 25, at the age of 70. A resident of Hazardville for the past 32 years, he and his wife had nine children, four of whom still live in Hazardville, including seven sons and two daughters. The children are Charles of St. Petersburg, Fla., Chester of Pease St., Henry, Leon and Frank of Hillcrest Rd., Edward of Rockville, Victor of Ansonia, Mrs. Elroy Janes of New Haven and Mrs. Bernard Strycharz of Rockville. Mr. Falkowski was born in Bielstok, Poland, coming here as a young man. He married the former Christina Murkowicz, who survives him, lived in Suffield for a time, then moved to Hazardville and the present family home, where he died. In addition to his immediate family he is survived by two brothers and two sisters still in Poland. He had 12 grandchildren. The Flakowskis had been married 46 years. At one time they had six sons serving in the armed forces. Charles, a retired Navy Chief petty officer, was on the first invasion ship at Normandy and participated in the invasions of Africa, Sicily, Italy and Southern France. Chester had an outstanding career as an Air Force pilot, is the holder of the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. He still holds the rank of major in the Air Force Reserves. Mr. Falkowski had been employed at the Somersville Manufacturing Co. until his retirement 10 years ago. He was a member of St. Bernard's Church. The funeral was held Jan. 28, from that church with the Rev. Patrick Fitzmaurice celebrating the solemn requiem high mass. Subdeacons were the Rev. Joseph Cushing and the Rev. George Raffaeta. Bearers were Stephen Graczewski, Peter Kozikowski, Frank Murkowicz, Lawrence Luczai, Maxmellon Zavisza and Edmund Wosko. Burial was in St. Bernard's Cemetery with Father Raffaeta reading the committal prayers. Browne Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. *********************************************** Copyright.
