"Debbie" (Kupec) Grenon, 51, of Bradfield Drive, Somers, beloved wife of 30 years of Albert R. "Al" Grenon Jr., died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at Saint Francis Hospital, Hartford, surrounded by her family after fighting a long and valiant battle with melanoma. Debbie was born in Hartford, daughter of Shirley (Liston) Kupec of East Windsor and the late Robert J. Kupec Sr., and was raised in Broad Brook. She was a graduate of East Windsor High School, Class of 1968, graduated Central Connecticut State University with a bachelor of arts degree and a master's degree in elementary education. She had been employed by the Somers Board of Education for the past 25 years as a fifth-grade teacher. Debbie was a member of the Connecticut State Teachers Association, the "Dames," and the "Brownies". She was a communicant of Holy Family Church and was a dedicated and passionate teacher who touched the lives of more than 1,000 students. Debbie enjoyed travel, being with friends, family, and nature, and especially the outdoors. Besides her beloved husband, Al, and her mother, she is survived by her loving daughter and best friend, Emily E. Grenon at home; three brothers, Robert J. Kupec Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Salisbury, Md., Jess Kupec of Ellington, and Wayne M. Kupec and his wife, Cathy, of Windsor Locks; her sister, Karen Shane of Ellington; her father and mother-in-law, Albert R. Grenon Sr. and Maryann Grenon of West Suffield; her sisters-in-law, Janet Ragno of West Suffield and Carole Grenon-Francoline and her husband, Jim, of East Granby; her nieces and nephews, Jesse, Nikki, and Katie Kupec, Linda Kupec, Michelle, Wayne Jr., and Travis Kupec, Tim Shane, Robert III and Aaron Kupec, Jannelle Ragno, and Jennifer Oliver; many special loving friends; and her special pet, "Ernie." Relatives and friends are invited to gather at 9 a.m. Friday, June 29, at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, for a procession to Holy Family Church, Simon Road, Enfield, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Catherine Cemetery, Broad Brook. Debbie's family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at the funeral home.
