TITLE: James Leroy Hall, Obituary, March 27, 2001 SUBMITTERS: Journal Inquirer Manchester,CT (issue Apr 3, 2001) FORMATTED: ABishop, Apr 2001 **************************************************************************** James Leroy Hall James Leroy Hall, 87, of the Melrose section of East Windsor, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 27, 2001, surrounded by his loving family and caregivers. He was the devoted husband of Ruth (Tschummi) Hall, who predeceased him in 1996 after 60 years of marriage. Mr. Hall was born in Montgomery, Mass., in 1913, the son of James Andrew Hall and Frances (Barker) Hall, who moved to Broad Brook in 1924. He worked in his parents' grocery store in Broad Brook until he graduated from Rockville High School and then worked in Broad Brook Co. as an assistant dyer. In September, 1938, Mr. Hall and his lifelong friend, Anthony J. Muska, co-founded Hall & Muska Inc., which they operated for more than 40 years, until Mr. Hall's retirement. Hall & Muska Inc. was the recipient of many awards, not only from the community, but also from Gulf Oil Corp., including the Fuel Oil Dealers award for the Northeast Division. At the time of his retirement, Hall & Muska Inc. served more than 5,000 customers. Mr. Hall was active in the community, serving on the board of directors of Broad Brook Bank and Trust Co., East Windsor Industrial Park, and the Melrose School House Preservation Committee. In his lifetime, Mr. Hall was a member of Broad Brook Congregational Church, Hazardville United Methodist Church, and several other organizations, including the Broad Brook Fish & Game Club, Broad Brook Angling Club, Liedertafel Singing Society, Rockville BPO Elks, and East Windsor Horse Thieves. He was also a member of the Grand Lodge of Connecticut Masons for more than 50 years, Gentlemen's Ale & Quail Club, and Ellington Ridge Country Club. Mr. Hall was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. Through Hall & Muska, he generously supported the Broad Brook Volunteer Fire Department, East Windsor High School Scholarship Fund, East Windsor Police Department, Lions Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and various youth sports and athletic teams of East Windsor, Ellington, and Enfield. He leaves his loving family, a daughter, Carol and her husband, Dr. Robert Correll, of Wethersfield; four grandchildren, Gail Dumas of East Windsor, Melanie Correll of Bradenton, Fla., G/Sgt. Greggory E. Correll and his wife, Elizabeth, of Olive Branch, Miss., and Dr. Leslayann Schecterson and her husband, Mark, of North Bend, Wash.; five great- grandchildren, Jonathan Dumas and his wife, Jeannine, of Waterbury, Vt., Amber Senter of Warren, Vt., Greggory G. Correll of Olive Branch, and Alexandra and Ryan Schecterson of North Bend; a loving sister, Esther, and brother-in-law, Philip Chapman, of the Melrose; a niece, Carolyn and her husband, Thomas Stephens, of La Canada, Calif., and her four children; and a nephew, Donald Chapman and his wife, Pim, from Thailand. He also leaves a caring friend, Dianne Croxford of Broad Brook, whose loyalty, dedication, and loving presence have enriched all of our lives; his loving caregivers, Patricia Nicholas of Broad Brook, Nancy Mellady of Enfield, Karen Kaminski and close friend, Art Wadsworth of Windsor Locks, and Roberta Bellows of Southwick, Mass.; and a supporting health care friend and confidant, Mr. David Korn and his family of South Windsor. Mr. Hall's funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at Broad Brook Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery, East Windsor. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield.
