Hollander Jules A. Hollander, 88, of Bloomfield and Aventura, Fla., chairman of Hartford Distributors Inc., died Saturday, April 14, 2001. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Max and Clara (Hess) Hollander. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in business administration. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Hollander was also a past president of Southern Distributing Co., a past president of Norfolk Sports Club, former chairman of the Greater Hartford Convention and Visitors Bureau, was instrumental in the development of the Hartford Civic Center, and was a director of Hartford Hospital. He was a member of Tumblebrook Country Club, Congregation Beth Israel, Hartford Runners Club, Greater Hartford Jewish Federation, and Greater Hartford Jewish Community Center. He was also a member of Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, Greater Miami Jewish Federation, State of Israel Bonds, Simon Weisenthal Institute, and Douglas Gardens for Alzheimer's. He ran in many marathons, including the Boston, New York, and Miami marathons. He leaves his wife, Barbara Hollander; his children, Robert A. Hollander and his wife, Marcy, of South Windsor, Maxine (Hollander) Weinstein and her husband, Michael, of West Hartford, and Ross H. Hollander and his wife, Linda, of Bloomfield; his grandchildren, Steven Hollander and his wife, Marjorie, Shana Witt and her husband, Brad, Seth Hollander and his wife, Patty, Dawn (Hollander) Padden and her husband, Michael, Seth Weinstein, Jaime Weinstein, Brett Hollander, and Samara Hollander; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Florence Hollander. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Congregation Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, with interment in Beth Israel Cemetery, Avon. A memorial period will be observed at the home of his son, Ross H. Hollander, 3 High Ledge Road, Bloomfield, Tuesday, following the funeral, through Wednesday evening. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford.
