Hiller, 92, of Jobs Hill Road, Ellington, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Fox Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Rockville. He was predeceased by his first wife, Helene (Laser) Hiller, and his second wife, Ruth (Hefernan) Stevenson Hiller. Russell was born in Rockville on May 22, 1910, son of the late William and Mary (Bock) Hiller. He resided in Rockville most of his life. Russell was a U.S. Navy submarine veteran of World War II. He had been employed by the former Continental Bakery and in 1972 he retired as a branch manger of the former Vernon National Bank, Vernon. Mr. Hiller was a member of First Lutheran Church, Ellington. He had served as treasurer of Boy Scouts of America, Troop of Ellington. He was a member of American Legion, Post #14 and a member of the former Sons of Hermon. Mr. Hiller is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia (& John) Clapp of Ellington; a stepson and daughter-in-law, James (& Bonnie) Stevenson of Tolland; and two stepdaughters and sons-in-law; Judith (& Ramon) Godek of Ellington, and Janice (& David) Hany of Tolland; two granddaughters, Wendy Clapp-Shapiro and her husband Jeffrey Shapiro of New York, N.Y., and Lisa Clapp of New Brunswick, N.J.; a great-granddaughter, Emma Shapiro; many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and a step-great-granddaughter, and a step son-in-law, Edward Kowalski of Florida. He was predeceased by his brother, William Hiller, and a step daughter-in-law, Joyce Kowalski. His funeral will be on Wednesday, April 9, 2003, 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Ellington, with the Rev. Jeffery Stalley officiating. Interment, with military honors, to follow at Grove Hill Cemetery, Rockville. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, April 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at White-Gibson-Small Funeral Home, 65 Elm St., Rockville.
