Johnson, 55, of Broadrock Road, Wakefield, R.I., the owner and proprietor of "Cleanway Express" in Wakefield, and longtime companion of Linda Bouvier, with whom he lived, died after a sudden illness Saturday, May 5, 2001, at South County Hospital, Wakefield. Born in Manchester on April 19, 1946, son of the late Douglas A. and Marion (Hoffner) Johnson, he had lived in the South County area since coming from San Antonio, Texas in 1992. Mr. Johnson was the owner and proprietor of "Cleanway Express" which started in Connecticut and relocated to the South County area for the past 10 years. He was also on the East Hartford police force for five years, retiring in 1972. Mr. Johnson attended Manchester Community College, was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a dedicated Christian man. Besides his companion, Mr. Johnson leaves two sons, Douglas P. Johnson Jr. of Manchester and Paul D. Johnson of Narrangansett, R.I.; five daughters, Christy Lynn Johnson and Sarah Carlson, both of Connecticut, and Rebekah E., Elizabeth E., and Jenifer E. Johnson, all of Narrangansett; two brothers, Bill Johnson and Roy Johnson, both of Manchester; a sister, Penny L. (Crawford) Anderson of Spokane, Wash.; and four grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at the Forbes Funeral Home, 28 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Route 2, Exeter, R.I. Visiting hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 9, at the funeral home.
