Johnson, 99, of 131 Bolton Road, Harvard, Mass., died at Deaconess Nashoba Hospital in Ayer, Mass., on Wednesday, May 9, 2001. She was born in Manchester on June 30, 1901, the daughter of S. Emil and Emma (Andersson) Johnson. She grew up in Manchester and was a graduate of Manchester High School, Class of 1918. She worked as a secretary at the American Red Cross for three years before becoming a secretary at Cheney Bros. Mills. Eva then embarked on a lifelong career with Manchester Memorial Hospital, starting as a switchboard operator, handling admissions, and doing secretarial work. She soon became the hospital's comptroller and in 1956, the assistant administrator. She retired in 1963. Eva's primary interest was music, and she was an accomplished pianist and organist. She was a charter member of the G Clef Club, a women's choral group, and was its piano accompanist for 25 years. She also accompanied the Beethoven Glee Club, a men's choral group. She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church and was an active participant in most of the church's organizations. She served on the board of directors of the hospital, was a member of the American College of Hospital Administrators, the Manchester Student Nurse Scholarship Committee, and Scandia Lodge. In 1987 Miss Johnson moved to Harvard, Mass., with her two sisters. She became an active member of the Evangelical Congregational Church of Harvard, the 60 Plus Club, and the "Tuesday" Group. She is survived by a sister, Beatrice Pearson; her niece, Karin Koch, and her husband, Peter, all of Harvard; and her niece, Linda Adams, and her husband, Bill, of Lockport, N.Y. She also leaves two great-nephews, Jeffrey Koch, and David Koch, and his wife, Amy; a great-niece, Gretchen Legro, and her husband, Jeffrey; a great-great-niece, Hailey Legro; and a great-great-nephew, Jackson Legro. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 14, at the Harvard Evangelical Congregational Church, Still River Road, Harvard, Mass. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, in the East Cemetery, Manchester, followed by a reception in Luther Hall at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Manchester. Badger Funeral Home in Littleton, Mass., is in charge of the arrangements.
