Kaplan, 72, of Stanley Drive, Enfield, entered into eternal peace Friday, May 11, 2001, at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Suffield, son of the late John and Bertha (Piskor) Kaplan. He was an Enfield resident for the past 21 years. John was a self-employed TV repairman and formerly owned and operated the Suffield TV Repair. He was formerly employed by J.C. Penney in Enfield, by Leybold-Heraeus Vacuum Systems, by Hamilton Standard, by Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co., and by the Suffield Country Club. John was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Suffield V.F.W.; Tanguay Magill, American Legion of Enfield; and the Enfield AMVETS. John loved golf, tag sales, and cars. He was a Mr. Fixit and could figure out any motorized item and repair it. He had a strong loving spirit and a heart of gold, and was always available to lend a hand whenever anyone asked. John is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Anna (Kerber) Kaplan; a stepdaughter and her husband, Louise and Douglas Beachell of Monson, Mass.; a stepdaughter and her husband, Dianna Petrone and Paul Valvo of Enfield; and a stepson, Peter Petrone of Enfield. John also leaves his grandchildren, Craig, Lea, and Kyle Valvo. John is also survived by sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and John Lewis of Windsor Locks; a sister and brother-in-law, Veronica and Anthony Wassil of Berlin; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Rose Kaplan of Enfield; a sister and brother-in-law, Bertha and Stanley Sojkowski of Enfield; a brother and sister-in-law, Bruno and Vickey Kaplan of Suffield; and a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Cynthia Kaplan of Somersville. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins; two aunts, Mary "Mamie" Kaplan and Rita Kaplan; and his goddaughter, Lisa A.E. Kaplan of Enfield. He was predeceased by four brothers, Frederick, Stanley "Handy," Mitchell, and Stephen. The funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, (Exit 48 off Interstate 91, east on Route 220 for 1¼ miles), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Adalbert Church, Alden Avenue, Enfield. Burial will be with military honors in St. Adalbert Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at the funeral home.
