Kania William B. Kania, 75, of Vernon, husband of Helen (Bielecki) Kania, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001. He was born in Willington and had lived in Vernon for 50 years. He was educated in Willington schools and worked at the Warren Woolen Mill, Stafford Springs. He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II, with the 286th Joint Assault Signal Co. After serving in the Army, he returned home, worked at the Hudson Garage, Stafford Springs, and then was a bus driver in Stafford Springs for Tony Lusa. Mr. Kania then started the Kania Construction Company of Vernon. He was a member of the Vernon Fire Department for 15 years, serving as second lieutenant and first lieutenant chief engineer. He and his wife would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 25, 2001. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Barbara Bielecki of Manchester, and Patricia and Mark Spare of Vernon; his grandchildren, Christine, Jennifer, William, and Teresa; his sisters, Rose Alves and Barbara Pippin, both of Stafford Springs; his nephews, Joseph Comarella and Frank Kania; and nieces, Paula Miller and Renee Bachiochi. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank Kania, and his sisters, Josephine Bachiochi and Helen Comarella. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, from the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard Church, Rockville. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery, Rockville. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 16, at the funeral home.
