It is always best to consult the original material for verification. ************************************************************************ ***************************************************************************** LAUFER Evelyn (Green) Laufer of Storrs and Woods Hole, Mass., passed away quietly in her sleep Wednesday, May 2, 2001, following a long and valiant fight for her life against ovarian cancer. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and educated in art, she received her teaching degree from City College of New York and a special education teaching certificate from St. Joseph College in West Hartford. She taught elementary school children for more than 40 years in Ithaca, N.Y., Baltimore, and was a master elementary school teacher for more than 20 years at Andover Elementary School in Andover. Evelyn Laufer was a dedicated and gifted teacher, highly regarded for her approach to teaching children about respect and diversity. She taught morals and ethical values, and Hebrew reading at Temple Beth Sholom in Manchester and several other Connecticut synagogues. A long-term resident of Manchester, Ms. Laufer was a recent five-year resident of Storrs. She was an active and innovative member of the Board of Associates at the Marine Biological Laboratories in Woods Hole, where she spent more than 40 summers with her family. Evelyn Laufer was the dearly beloved wife of Hans Laufer, Ph.D., professor of molecular and cell biology at the University of Connecticut and Marine Biological Laboratories; and the adored mother of Jessica K. Laufer of Los Angeles, Dr. Marc R. Laufer of Weston, Mass., and Leonard J. Laufer of Scarsdale, N.Y., and their respective spouses, Dr. Neal Halfon, Dr. Susan Rosenfeld Laufer, and Terry Gushner Laufer. She leaves behind five adorable grandchildren, Isaac, Emma, Isabella, Alexandra, and Arianna. She is survived by her mother, Sylvia Green of Queens, N.Y.; her sister, Barbara Roseff and her husband, Lionel; and cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family is grateful for many years of caring and excellent medical treatment she received. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today, May 3, at the chapel of Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford, with interment at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 4, at Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Lawrence Shulman, M.D., Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA 02115, or Marine Biological Laboratory Associates Research Fellowship Fund, Woods Hole, MA 02543. *********************************************** Copyright.
