Long, 86, of South Branch Parkway, Springfield, beloved husband of 62 years of Mary M. (Keane) Long, died peacefully Saturday, May 26, 2001, at his home. Born in Springfield on May 31, 1914, he was a lifetime resident of the Springfield community. John was employed as a dispatcher for the former Railway Express Agency for 35 years, retiring in 1976. He was a communicant of Holy Cross Church, and a member of the Holy Cross Senior Citizens. Besides his wife, Mary, John is survived by three sons, John J. Long and his wife, Jane, of Suffield, James L. Long and his wife, Nancy, of Yarmouth Port, Mass., and Michael F. Long and his wife, Donna, of Suffield; two daughters, Mary Ann Vanderscoff and her husband, Jeff, of Wilbraham, Mass., and Sheila M. Nicoll and her husband, David, of Longmeadow, Mass.; a brother, Edward Long and his wife, Annamae, of Springfield; a sister, Mary Cassidy of Wilbraham; 12 grandchildren, Heather, Megan, Brendon, Theresa, Amy, Stephen, Conor, Gavin, Katherine, Paul, John, and Ian; and a great-grandson, Matthew. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Holy Cross Church, 221 Plum Tree Road, Springfield. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Springfield. There will be no visiting hours. Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, is caring for John's arrangements.
