Edward Michael LaRose, 61, retired pastor of St. Jerome Church in New Britain, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, after a lengthy illness. Born in New Britain April 26, 1939, he was the son of Michael E. LaRose of New Britain and the late Mary K. (Farrell) LaRose. He attended St. Joseph School and New Britain High School. He was a graduate of Saint Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield and Christ the King Seminary in New York. Father LaRose was ordained a priest on May 19, 1966, at Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford by the Most Rev. Archbishop Henry J. O'Brien, D.D. His assignments included serving at Sacred Heart Church in Southbury, St. Bartho-lomew Church in Manchester, St. Pius X Church in Wolcott, and Holy Spirit Church in Newington. Father LaRose served as pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Harwinton from 1982 to 1996. He was then appointed pastor of St. Jerome Church in New Britain, where he served until his retirement in 1999. He then became a resident of Holy Cross Rectory in New Britain. In addition to his father, he is survived by his sister, Mary Kathryn LaRose of Kensington; his brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Regina LaRose of Needham, Mass.; and his nephew, Stephen M. LaRose of Washington, D.C. Father LaRose will be formally received at Holy Cross Church, Farmington Avenue, New Britain, at 2 p.m. Monday, April 16. Friends may call at the church until 7 p.m. when Mass will be celebrated by Msgr. Daniel J. Plocharczyk, Episcopal vicar of the Hartford Vicariate. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Holy Cross Church, with Auxiliary Bishop Peter Rosazza, D.D. as main celebrant. The homily will be delivered by Rev. Peter S. Sobiecki, pastor of Holy Cross Church. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Following the Funeral Liturgy a reception will be held in Father LaRose's honor at St. Jerome Church Hall, Slater Road, New Britain. Father LaRose's family wishes to extend a special thank-you to staffs at New Britain General Hospital, Medi-Plex of Newington, and the Connecticut Hospice of Farmington, for their special care of Father LaRose.
