McDonald of Enfield, husband of Catherine (McGee) McDonald, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at home. He was born March 26, 1929, in Pawtucket, R.I., son of the late William B. and Margaret V. (Manion) McDonald. He moved to Connecticut in 1953 to work at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, and in 1959 was employed by the public accounting firm of Scovell Wellington and Company in Springfield. From 1961 to 1965 he was an Internal Revenue Service field agent in Hartford. Self-employed from 1965 until his retirement in 1996 as an attorney and certified public accountant, he held bachelor and master of science degrees from the University of Hartford and a doctor of laws degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law. He was town attorney for the town of Enfield from 1980 to 1987. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1946 to 1948 as a corporal in Weapons Company, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1948 to 1951 as a radioman second class aboard the USCGC Matagorda on North Atlantic weather patrol, and the USCGC Kimball, and the USCGC Sweetbriar in the Gulf of Alaska and along the Aleutian Island chain. He is survived by his wife, and five children, Elizabeth K. McDonald of Gallup, N.M., William J. McDonald of Westport, Roberta A. Langan of Rocky Hill, Patricia A. Spillane of Maui, Hawaii, and Steven J. McDonald of New London; two grandchildren, Sarah E. and William C. McDonald of Westport; and a sister, Margaret R. Desmarais of Fort Pierce, Fla. He was predeceased by an older sister, Rose M. McDonald, and a younger brother, Joseph P. McDonald. Family and friends may gather at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. (Route 159), Suffield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, Enfield. Burial will be in Enfield Street Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at the funeral home.
