TITLE: George Mangerian, Obituary, September 2, 2001 SUBMITTERS: Journal Inquirer Manchester,CT (issue September 5, 2001) FORMATTED: ABishop, Sept 2001 ************************************************************************************************ MANGERIAN George "Coke" Mangerian, 82, of Enfield, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at his home. George was born in Thompsonville, son of the late Harry Mangerian and the late Mary (Vartanian) Mangerian. He was a resident of Enfield all of his life and was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. (C.C.C.) in Stafford, that was created by former President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Upon completion of the C.C.C., Coke enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving honorably during World War II, pulling patrol duty in the Southwest Pacific on the USS Colonial LSD-18, the USS P.C. 1079, and the USS Jouett DD396. He was employed at Bradley International Airport for many years before retiring. Coke was a very gregarious person and was renowned by many locals as a "historian" for the town of Thompsonville. He also loved trivia. Coke is survived by three nieces, Barbara Wood of Enfield, Susan Phelps and her husband, Marty, of Coventry, Mary Guerrette and her husband, Robert, of Enfield; a nephew, Harry Mangerian of Windsor; four great-nephews, Mathew and Michael Guerrette, David Phelps, and Michael Wood; two great-nieces, Courtney Phelps and Susan Wood; a great-great-nephew, Cole; a great-great-niece, Ismoni; two sisters-in-law, Margaret and Marie Mangerian of Enfield. George was predeceased by two brothers, Henry Mangerian (1972) and Harry Mangerian (1995). A graveside service for George will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, in Thompsonville Cemetery, followed by military honors. Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels is caring for his funeral arrangements.
