Nekiunas Edward R. "Nick" Nekiunas, 75, of South Windsor, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Hartford Hospital. Born on Feb. 17, 1926, in Bridgeport, son of the late Paul and Amelia (Zuk) Nekiunas, he had lived in South Windsor for the past 40 years. Edward enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served on the now-famous LST 325 in the invasion of Normandy on D-Day. He was employed as an experimental mechanic at Sikorsky in Stratford, then as a foreman at Kaman Aircraft, Bloomfield. He retired in 1988 from Hartford Hospital as HVAC foreman after 18 years. He was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Manchester, and was a member of VFW Post 10251, South Windsor. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 55 years, Edna (Antolik) Nekiunas; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jane Nekiunas of South Windsor, Judith and Michael Rizocki of Vernon, and Paula and Scott Lambert of South Windsor. He will be greatly missed by his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Meredith and Jonathan Rizocki, and Michael and David Lambert. He also leaves two nephews, Thomas Albrikes of Stratford and James Albrikes of New Haven. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, at Concordia Lutheran Church, 40 Pitkin St., Manchester. Burial with military honors will be in Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor. His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor.
