TITLE: Kathryn (Sares) Niarchos, Obituary, May 4, 2001 SUBMITTERS: Journal Inquirer Manchester,CT (issue May 7, 2001) FORMATTED: ABishop, June 2001 ***************************************************************************** NIARCHOS Kathryn (Sares) Niarchos, 82, formerly of Brainard Road, Enfield, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2001, at Parkway Pavilion Healthcare, Enfield. She was born Aug. 16, 1918, in Easthampton, Mass., and graduated from Classical High School in 1936. Kathryn, along with her husband, Steve, was the owner of Soda Chef Restaurant for 30 years in Pittsfield, Mass., before moving to Enfield in 1976. Kathryn worked for 15 years at Steiger's Department Store. Kathryn loved to serve at the Cathedral of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Springfield, and received an award for her years of service. While living in Enfield, Kathryn was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. She is survived by a daughter, Elaine A. Parakilas and her husband, Thomas, of Enfield; a son, Arthur J. Niarchos and his wife, Diane, of Orange; a sister, Viola Megas of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Michael, Christine, Ann, Stephen, Kathryn, John, Christina, and Alicia; and six great-grandchildren, Joseph, Sarah, Jessica, Jillian, Alexander, and Samantha. Kathryn was predeceased by two brothers, Ted Sares and Louis Sares. A funeral procession will be held at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, from the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, followed by a funeral service at 9:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Enfield. Burial will be held privately at Pittsfield Cemetery, Pittsfield, Mass., later in the day. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the funeral home. Trisagion services will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund, 5 Chapel St., Enfield, CT 06082. The family would like to thank the staff at the Parkway Pavilion for the wonderful care and affection extended to Kathryn over the 4½ years she resided at the facility.
