TITLE: John Paul O'Dell, Obituary, May 19, 2001 SUBMITTERS: Journal Inquirer Manchester, CT(issue May 21, 2001) FORMATTED: ABishop, June 2001 ***************************************************************************** O'DELL John Paul O'Dell, 53, of Dale Road, Enfield, beloved husband of 22 years of Susan (Ward) O'Dell, entered into eternal rest Saturday, May 19, 2001 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer. John was born in Bartlesville, Okla., and was a resident of Enfield most of his life. He was a graduate of Enfield High School, Class of 1967. He was co-captain of the high school football team and won the Shakespearean Award for his acting ability. John served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was a bugler with the U.S. Marine Corps Band. He was the manager of Bobcat of Greater Springfield in Chicopee for the past 10 years. John was an avid golfer, past president of the Windsor Locks Golf Association, active with the Booster Club at Enfield High School, and a communicant of Holy Family Church, Enfield. Besides his wife, Susan, John is survived by his two loving children, Derek and Erin O'Dell, both of Enfield; his loving Boston terrier, Holly; a brother, Pete Martin of Collinsville, Okla.; a sister, Kerry Ridener of Texas; an aunt, Helen Wilson and her husband, Glen; and an uncle, Bob O'Dell and his wife, Phyllis. A funeral service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, from Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church. Burial, with Marine Corps honors, will be in St. Patrick King Street Cemetery, Enfield. John's family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, May 21, at the funeral home.
