Potkai Edward P. Potkai, 83, of West Forrest Drive, Enfield, entered into eternal peace on Friday, April 13, 2001, at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford Springs. He was the son of the of the late Stanislaw and Anna Potkai. Edward was born in Dudley, Mass., and was an Enfield resident for the past 47 years. Ed was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Justice's Immigration and Naturalization Service for 35 years, and retired in 1976. Ed was a communicant and active member of St. Martha Church, Enfield. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Ann T. (Riordan); a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Jamie Potkai; two daughters and sons-in-law, Walter and Marie Gedney of Somers, and Edward and Nancy McGuire of Enfield; three grandchildren, Emily and Alison Gedney, and Christopher McGuire; two sisters, Lillian Woodbury and Stella Tyburski; and two brothers, Walter and Frank Potkai. Ed was predeceased by a grandson, Jeffrey McGuire. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, April 16, from the Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield (Exit 48 off Interstate 91, Route 220 east 1¼ miles), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Martha Church, 214 Brainard Road, Enfield. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery, Hazardville section of Enfield, with military honors.
