TITLE: Raymond Anthony Pickell Jr, Obituary, April 13, 2001 SUBMITTERS: Journal Inquirer Manchester,CT (issue Apr 19, 2001) FORMATTED: ABishop, Apr 2001 ***************************************************************************** Raymond Anthony Pickell Jr Raymond Anthony Pickell Jr. slipped out of the hands of his loving family and into the loving hands and everlasting arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, April 13, 2001, at Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was born on Aug. 27, 1924, in Norristown, Pa., to Raymond A. Pickell Sr. and Hannah (McCabe) Pickell. Raymond was a graduate of Norristown High School, Class of 1943, and later attended Lincoln Prep. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, in both the European and the Pacific theaters. He was a member of VFW Post 1804 of Norristown, Pa., and the American Legion in Scotch Plains, N.J. Most of his working years were spent in service to Pyrofax Bottled Gas Co. as plant superintendent in Hillside, N.J., and Bridgeport, Pa. Raymond enjoyed residence at both 159 Deer Run Trail, Manchester, and in Ship Bottom, N.J. While in Manchester he faithfully attended St. Bartholomew Church, and was always warmly welcomed at many services and special events at Trinity Covenant Church, Manchester. He will be missed by friends he met for morning coffee at Village Restaurant, and his dear neighbors on Deer Run Trail. He will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 53 years, Betty Cowell Pickell of Manchester and Ship Bottom; his loving daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Michael Longo of Manchester; and three adoring granddaughters, Sarah and Meredith Longo, both of Manchester, and Sasha Pickell of Elmira, N.Y. He was predeceased by a son, Raymond A. Pickell III, in 1980. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Covenant Church at the convenience of the family at a later date.
