TITLE: Raymond Robert Reeves, Obituary, June 24, 2001 SUBMITTERS: Journal Inquirer Manchester,CT (issue June 26, 2001) FORMATTED: ABishop, Sept 2001 ************************************************************************************************ REEVES Raymond Robert Reeves, 71, of East Hartford, beloved husband of Nancy (Powell) Reeves, died suddenly at his home Sunday, June 24, 2001. Raymond was born in Hartford on March 20, 1930, a son of the late Raymond Leo and Elizabeth Gertrude (Klein) Reeves, and had lived in East Hartford for 50 years. He was a communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford, and also served as one of the church's ushers. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict. Ray was a life member of the VFW, East Hartford, and was a past coach for VFW midget football and Little League Baseball in East Hartford. A 30-year member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3901, East Hartford, he was serving as its treasurer. Ray was also a member of the East Hartford Lodge of Elks 2063 and served as past treasurer of the lodge. An avid golf enthusiast, Ray served as co-chairman for 18 years for the annual Elk Golf Tournaments. Ray was employed by Aetna Insurance, Hartford, retiring in 1992 as a supervisor of the Medicare unit. He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past March 31. Besides his wife, Ray is survived by his two sons and two daughters-in-law, Patrick and Maureen Reeves of Coventry and Michael and Donna Reeves of East Hartford; four grandchildren, Katie and Tyler of Coventry and Christopher and Colleen of East Hartford; and a close friend, Neal Forte, who was like a son to him. The funeral service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, June 28, from Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10 a.m. at St. Christopher Church, 538 Brewer St., East Hartford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Veterans Field section of Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford. The Reeves family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at the funeral home. An Elks ritual will take place in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
